User-generated content

With the rise of user-generated content, we have seen a rise in the policing of internet media. The iron fist of the law has emerged in our digital world, and creative expression in the form of film manipulation is not secure against this monolith.

In the recent films we have observed this semester, there is an undeniable relation that these films share with our digital culture. Film has traversed the cinema, to now include the personal computer as its vessel. With this, there is an emerging art form that re-edits copyrighted films to tell new stories.

The concern that this emerging art form is in some way undermining piracy laws is largely unclear. I personally believe that there will always be a political force that mediates our creative entities. And in return, there will always be a legal force to control our creative destinies.
