User Generated Content

Deliver Us From Evil was painful and a very difficult documentary to watch. User generated media beyond posting comments, related to this film probably should be filtered by the hosting site if they want to control user generated material that could be incendiary and volatile to a point that does add to the conversation.
Video responses to the documentary YouTube I found weren’t crazy; I simply propose potentially screening content to maintain a site easier. On the website deliverusfromevilthemovie.com, they review user responses before posting them. I imagine this site may get a wide variety of responses and that some may need special handling. Overall the website was sleepy and unuseful. I think there should be a links page with access to resources for people who may have been abused.

Some might argue that pre-screening censors dialogue, but even in YouTube, inappropriate content gets eliminated, so this would just be pre-filtering. It depends on the type of forum websites want to create.

I think that there could be a downside to interactive multiplatform outreach if the user generated content went too extremist crazy. But net users generally flow pretty swiftly through material if it isn’t catchy or poignant-- the five second rule. So it seems that poor material would get buried and good material would hopefully rise to the top.

Most websites welcome viewer comments. Some conversational strands have good points, many are all just reactionary and don’t get anywhere. I don’t know how many people actually read these posts, but I imagine anyone who wants to use the info generated in user comments is familiar with the forum and understands the many types of comments, and the odd nature of annonymous posting.

I do not know if websites create meaningful community around issues. Though I'm not that engaged in them so much, I think they can create community around issues, There will always be crazies or extremists. In an online forum I think it may be easy enough to flow past content you are uninterested in, but still benefit from seeing the percentage of crazies.
Here are some rants from YouTube in response to Deliver us from Evil:

Thanks for the video. The pope is not even christian! No offense chatolics, but, open your eyes. He´s part of the satanic cult of the world. Look at all the occult signs, handsigns, and look at his face, eyes... Is that ANY truth, light wisdom there??? Don´t be fooled. Saying "sorry" I raped a few children... naaw it´s just making people furious. And that´s the point. Sorry to say, PROVE I´M WRONG look for your selfes

Funny how they allow homosexual preists work with boys! Catholics are the Bablyon church! Don't worry Iran may nuke Vatican, it's a prophecy the next pope will have to flee Vatican and no one will help him, his own pwoplw shall watch him die. That was a vision from a dozen or so people. It's going to happen!

@moonphoenix1 Either way Oboma is starting WW III by then pedophiles are going to be killed anyways. The issue is two reasons, one too many rights are given to pedophiles, and two blame the pagin shows! In fact Pedophiles are resonsible for wasting our tax money when it comes to relocating them after their prison sentence. Yep another reason to destroy them, they are leeching our tax money!

In the comments above people are simply ranting. There seems to be a potential threat on the Vatican in one, the pope does seemed messed up, nad doesn't look friendly. Relocation of sex offenders-- a waste of tax dollars:) I am not one who chats much online or reads a lot online. Therefore the idea of creating a meaningful community around a topic is not my thing but I know it's happening though(even though these rants are not an example of meaningful communication).

Watching Deliver Us from Evil was extremely challenging. I can't imagine anything worse. I did make me think of a recent Daily Show where religion was examined under the science of the mind. ( Skip to the interview with Sam Harris)
